KEYS: A (BRIEF) HISTORY

"With a grin, Mark held up his key. Beautifully ornate, the bronze key had a slender neck with a square base. Its top was formed with two bronze ovals, an intricate pattern weaving like ribbon throughout.

'All keepers have them,” he said. “It’s like a third arm, practically.'"
The first key arrived in 3000BC by way of wings--to Joshua son of Josiah. In the middle of the night on his 12th birthday, he received a bronze key. He didn't know what to think. He went to his parents, clutching the key and explaining to them what had happened. At first, the family tried keeping this secret. Who would believe them? But slowly, the secret leaked out. And slowly, more and more children received bronze keys. As the keys multiplied, so did the knowledge of magic.

Soon, those who received keys were labeled keepers. Or rather, keepers of magic.

Not until 1600AD did the first silver key arrive. Alyssues, Cashals, Davises, Dromores, Etones, Phoenixes, and Susurruses were the first families to receive silver keys.
